About Tom Bischof, M.S. Ed., NCC

My goal is to make your life less challenging.

Are life’s challenges overwhelming at times, causing you distress and impairing your daily functioning?

I have extensive life experience and a passion for helping others resolve difficult issues and restore hope, purpose, and normalcy in their lives. I place a lot of emphasis on building strong, trusting relationships with my clients.

For therapy to work, I need your strong commitment and willingness to collaborate with me, and to make the necessary adjustments to get you there!

My approach is person-centered and solution-focused, and I employ cognitive-behavioral techniques to help my clients achieve their desired outcomes.

My specialty involves working with adolescents, adults, and couples to address a variety of concerns, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship communication, boundaries, substance abuse, and navigating life transitions.

Here’s an overview of my training.

Raised on Long Island, New York, I received my B.A. in Political Science/Public Administration from Fordham University in the Bronx, NY, in 1986.

I received my Master’s in Education and Clinical Health Counseling from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA, in 2002. I also received a Master’s in Public Administration from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, New York, NY, in 2005.

My professional experience includes 30 years as a military officer and leader, with a focus on career counseling, wellness, life transitions, family advocacy, and crisis intervention.

I am a licensed resident in Counseling in Virginia (#0704015047). In addition, I am a National Certified Counselor.
